It has limitations such as load times and game swapping that I can easily see as being negative factors that would prevent someone from buying one. If they were looking for a machine to play on their lunch hour or similar circumstance, did care much about swapping games out quickly, and wanted some eye-candy, I would recommend the PSP. Despite the fact I prefer playing on my PSP, I would suggest the DS to people looking for something lighter, more portable, with easier swapping of games. If someone came to me and asked which they should get, I would find out how they planned on using the machine. I can likely get a race in Mario Kart completed during the wait. When I am going to run an errand where I know I may have to wait for things, like heading to the local fast food drive through, I take my DS. The PSP's initial load times are rarely ever a factor, and the machine has instant resume. I typically concentrate on a few PSP games at a time, and rarely swap out games. When I take a break at work, I play my PSP. They both serve their purposes, and those purposes are not quite the same. I have both a PSP (13 games) and a DS Lite (11 games). People think that because a given thing doesn't meet their wants and needs that it is inherently inferior. I see in this thread what I see in almost every DS vs. I have a 1Gig card with my music, and 3 games I chug around to play. That beign said, my wife is now using my DS, and I always use the PSP. I think there are however much less good games than on DS. There are also not that many good games, but some are very interesting.Įxit is a very good game for train rides, as is Tokobo. (the content is 320x200 and zoomed to the screen size rather than native screen size). Otherwise, you are playing zoomed content.

You can only get full resolution playback when playing UMDs or trough homebrew. They intentionally limited the maximum resolution available for playback. The grief is really that this system is crippled by sony for playing videos. The car games have very good A.I., and even the shoot em ups are not bad (GUN is actually not that bad on PSP). and some games that I've played trough and trough (grand theft auto anyone?). On the PSP, while the load times are long, we have some really good A.I.
While I agree that the DS is much better in load times, and ease of use, the games are much more childish as well.Īll the good DS games are games that take almost no CPU power, and have almost no A.I.! Anything like car games and shoot-em-ups tend to be rather bad (with some exceptions like metroid-prime).
